Home Dashboard — Custom New Tab
Last updated: August 21, 2026
This privacy policy describes how the Home Dashboard browser extension ("the extension") handles information. The extension is designed to replace your browser's new tab page with a customizable personal dashboard.
The extension does not require an account, registration, or login.
1. Data stored on your device
The extension stores your dashboard configuration — such as your saved websites, appearance preferences, and schedule settings — locally on your device using the browser's local storage API (chrome.storage.local).
User-selected wallpapers and custom website icons that you add may be stored locally as data URLs within this storage.
Data stored locally remains on your device unless you explicitly use a feature that sends a request to an external service (for example, requesting weather information for your location, or fetching a page title for a website you add).
2. Recently closed tabs
The extension uses the browser sessions API to display your recently closed tabs and allow you to reopen them. This information is read from your browser's session history and is not transmitted outside your device.
3. Wallpaper rotation
The extension uses the alarms API to rotate wallpapers according to the schedule you select. Wallpapers may be requested from external photo sources when you choose to use them; these requests are described in the "Third-party services" section below.
4. Location and weather
To provide weather information, the extension may use location-related services to determine your approximate location. This may include browser geolocation (which always asks for your permission) or a city name that you enter yourself. Location is used solely to fetch weather data for the location you choose.
5. Adding websites
When you add a website, the extension may request publicly available page information — such as the page title — from the URL you enter, in order to fill in the site name automatically. Only the URL you provide is used for this request.
6. What the extension does not collect
- The extension does not intentionally collect passwords, authentication credentials, payment information, health information, or personal communications.
- There is no user account or registration system.
- There is no intentional analytics or behavioral tracking.
- The extension does not sell user data.
- The extension does not use user data for advertising, profiling, credit scoring, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's functionality.
7. Third-party services
The extension does not intentionally share user data with third parties except where a third-party service is necessary to provide a user-facing feature. These services may include:
- Weather data providers, used to display weather for your selected location.
- Photo services (such as Unsplash, Wikimedia Commons, or Bing), used to fetch wallpaper images when you choose them.
- Public website metadata, requested when you add a site by its URL.
Any data sent to these services is limited to what is needed to fulfill the specific feature (for example, a city name or a URL you entered). These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle requests.
8. Data retention and deletion
Your dashboard data is stored only on your device. You can remove it at any time by:
- Using the extension's available reset or settings functionality to clear stored data.
- Removing or resetting the extension from your browser, which deletes all locally stored extension data.
9. Chrome Web Store User Data / Limited Use
The extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy and the Limited Use requirements. User data is used only to provide or improve the extension's user-facing functionality. The extension does not sell user data and does not use user data for personalized advertising.
10. Changes to this policy
If the extension's data practices change, this policy will be updated accordingly. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
This policy applies only to the Home Dashboard extension and not to any third-party websites or services the extension may interact with.
